Development of rapid strategies for testing
of candidate crop
QTLs
The goal of this project is to achieve a better understanding of the
bases of tomato fruit
metabolism and shift from the traditional “trial and error” approach
in breeding programs to
a more comprehensive view through focusing on the identification, mapping,
isolation and
analysis of genes involved in quality traits present beyond traditionally
used cultivars and
therefore approach the exploration of the genetic diversity in the Solanum
genus.
Description
The aim of this project is to functionally characterize key regulatory
points in the network of
metabolic processes that govern tomato fruit biology. From the analysis
of defined regions
of the tomato genome, previously identified by our groups as quantitative
metabolic loci
(QML) (Schauer et al, 2006), a detailed investigation of the genes co-locating
with these
regions and their functions will be carried out. Nature Biotechnology
2006. 24(4): 447-454.
FCA -UNR has the following positions:
Under graduate
In our Plant in vitro Culture and Molecular Biology laboratory undergraduate thesis for the final step in Biotechnology degree are developed. Undergraduate students from the Faculty of Biochemistry UNR have the opportunity to reach their degree working in Plant Genetics and Breeding. Also we attend graduates for other national and private universities which want to acquire training in no-conventional methods of Plant Breeding and basic Genetics.
